Portrait of Instructor Ron Forsyth

Hello, I’m Rob…

I’ve always enjoyed keeping fit and from a young age I held an interest in martial arts. Throughout my teens I tried Judo, Kickboxing and Muay Thai, flitting between one style and another.  Then in 2008 I found Fujian White Crane Kung fu and for the last 12 years I’ve not looked back. It’s agile, fast, powerful. It’s exciting.

Yes, Kung Fu is a fighting system which includes punches, blocks and kicks, but that’s just the start. Most people begin with an interest in martial arts and maybe a desire to get fit or do something different.  Whatever your motivation, training in Kung Fu can help in the short-term, but if you keep training, under the right direction, the real magic starts to happen…

Kung Fu starts off as a want – I want to lose weight or I want to learn to defend myself. Over time Kung Fu turns into a need – to better oneself, to take control, to strive for continual perfection. It becomes an integral part of your life.

Training in Kung Fu centres me, it gives me time and space to slow down, absorb and reflect, to be truly present.  It has increased my self-awareness, confidence and self-belief.  The qualities inherent within Kung Fu align with my personal values of ambition, hard work and integrity. My daily practice helps to reinforce the importance of these values and helps me to live in accordance with them.  In this way, Kung Fu has enriched my life and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to share how it can enrich the lives of others.

If you want to get fit, lose weight, get strong, increase your coordination, improve your stamina, have fun, feel part of a community, then you should train with me.

If you want to equip yourself with a life skill that is going to teach you discipline, self-awareness, judgement, confidence, and the ability to keep a cool head in a confrontational situation, then you should train with me.

And if you want to give yourself the opportunity to see how Kung Fu can enrich your life in so many other ways, then you should train with me.

I’m now teaching Tiger Crane Kung Fu and Suang Yang Tai Chi in Winchester and the surrounding areas. I aim to cultivate a friendly club environment.  Anyone can join, no matter what age, gender, and fitness level and beginners are particularly welcome, anytime.

I look forward to seeing you in class!
