Modern life encourages the shallow view and instant gratification. Chinese arts take a lifetime of study, and encourage a wider perspective.

I was lucky to take up Fujian White Crane under such a teacher as Dennis Ngo. Training under him has taught me that a skinny, uncoordinated kid can become better than he would have believed he could, and not just at Kung Fu.

The strength, determination and belief in my own potential produced by hard, no-nonsense training have given me the confidence to attempt to learn many other skills.

In addition, trying to understand the thinking of an entirely different culture from your own teaches you flexible thinking. Above all, it is not the arrival that is important, but the journey itself.
