I've always had an interest that I devote my whole time to. When I was younger this enthusiasm was for horses, and I'd spend any time I could at the local riding stables. A move to Bristol for university meant a move away from horse riding. I started teaching myself yoga from a second hand book, and became dedicated to following the daily regimes every morning for the next 10 years. Following university I travelled across Asia, and every country was captivating. My love of the east was firmly established. During this time, my working life behind a drawing board, meant I was sitting down all day, every day, and felt I needed to do something more energetic. I complimented my yoga practice with going to the gym. However the gym became very monotonous, and after a couple of years of this, decided a martial art was what I was looking for. I felt this would keep me fit & flexible, and would be based in eastern traditions I'd developed a fascination with.

As soon as I'd done my first class of Fujian White Crane Kung Fu I was hooked. I went home & practised what I'd learnt in class for another hour. FWC covers the whole spectre of training, energetic techniques and slow stretching; developing your stamina, speed, flexibility, dexterity, self discipline and ability to change your body and mind. Having trained at the City & Islington club for a number of years, I have built up a good group of friends. I found everyone in the club very friendly and welcoming to newcomers, and there are many club wide social events.

Since being part of FWC, I have been back to China a couple of times on training camps. Travelling with Chief Instructor Dennis Ngo has given a far greater insight into the Chinese culture than I could ever have gained from my own visit years before.

I work with my husband Instructor Nick Fielding in the Richmond & Twickenham club, teaching newcomers, or assisting Nick with the training. This is incredibly rewarding, especially once you have students grade for the first time.
