FWC City & Islington Fundraiser - Saturday 3rd December, 2011

Kung Fu helps the Elderly in Islington!

On Saturday 3rd December 2011, members of the Fujian White Crane Kung Fu, City and Islington club, ran a much needed fund raising event the Claremont project (http://www.claremont-project.org) which is a charity based in Islington specialising in helping the elderly in our community.

This fundraiser involved a Kung Fu pentathlon consisting of a 500m duck walk, 250 leg lifts, 1000 punches, 1 minute of iron bridge and 333 upper crane blocks. The event pushed the toughest of students to their limits. Even the young Kung Fu stylists from the Children's Club took part in a slimmed down version of the adult event. So far the students have raised over £4000 of sponsorship!

Claremont is feeling the effects of the current financial squeeze and needs all the support it can get. This is one of the main reasons why FWC City and Islington has taken Claremont as its adopted charity. The club also uses the halls at Claremont for classes and have seen first hand what great work they do. In fact the club has been running an annual fundraiser for a number of years now.

Claremont offer a wide range of services and activities aimed at making members lives happier and healthier. They work with elderly people who may feel isolated and lonely and have been doing a great job here in Islington since 1907.

Meanwhile FWC Kung Fu has been in existence and teaching in the United Kingdom since 1977, with the City and Islington branch being established in 1998. Students come from a wide range of backgrounds and the club fosters a culture of responsibility, respect and camaraderie.
