FWC Reading

About the class

Sparring is part of training that seems quite daunting to the beginner. However, it is the ideal way to build confidence in applying the moves and principles you learn against a live partner. You will find that the class has a welcoming atmosphere where everyone helps each other to push themselves. The seniors and more experienced students are there to help the juniors grow in their abilities, not to beat anyone down. The only ego allowed is in being able to learn and be better.

Directions

Reading YMCA is easily seen from Parkside Road, near the Tilehurst Road end (Tilehurst Road runs parallel to the Oxford Road and the Bath Road). The closest train line is Reading West, 5 minutes walk away. There is street parking outside the YMCA.

What am I going to learn?

You will build towards free sparring with no rules, other than the safety of your partner. Along the way you will learn how to keep going when you just want to give up. You will get fitter than most people ever will. And you will have a lot of great fun and memories to hold dear.

So can anyone join in?

All FWC Members can take part. To free spar you must have graded on your first pattern. Until then you will work towards the free sparring through pad-work and partnered exercises focusing on certain drills and fight techniques.

Who teaches it again?
